Fabulous Multi-Voyage Sailing Log Kept by a San Francisco Lawyer, Joseph J. Doone ~ 1894

$850 shipped, (US Only).

Great story here. An attorney by the name of Joseph Doone left a successful position as a prosecuting attorney for Judge Toohey in San Francisco in 1894 and embarked on a round the world, multi-ship voyage to "regain his health." Proving himself as a sailor and then mate, Doone worked his way into a position of trust aboard multiple vessels, including the schooner S.P. "Hitchcock," coastal lumber barks and other ships, visiting Liverpool, New York, Yokohama, Tahiti, Hawaii and Alaska before resuming his law career. Fascinating reading, day by day account of minor mutinies, sailing tricks, navigational aids and mishaps aboard several ships who were headed where he wanted to go. Great photos of the S.P. Hitchcock, a termination letter for a wayward mate and more inside.
