Nice, Identified and Enscribed Group of Arms to Pvt.Joel Bancroft, 14th New York Infantry, wounded at Malvern Hill, Prisoner at Libby Prison before re-joining the 44th New York and taking part in battles for The Wilderness, Laurel Hill, Spotsylvania, White Oak Ford and Five Forks (while serving with the 146th New York) ~ 1861-1865 $3,500.00 (U.S. Only) Group includes Bancroft's battlefield condition Model 1842 Springfield Musket w/Bayonet and Frog and his cartridge box, embossed "U.S." and maker marked, its inserts in place. Reverse side of lock carefully enscribed "JBB" by the soldier. Bancroft enlisted for two years at Albany, New York, serving with Co. E, 14th Regiment, NY Infantry (1st Oneidas). Wounded July 1 1862 at Malvern Hill, captured at James River, Confined at Libby Prison, Paroled at City Point on July 22, 1862 and hospitalized for gunshot wound to the knee. In 1864 he reenlisted for three years with the 44th New York, transfered to Co. G, 146th NY Vols and mustered out with that regiment. |
