Lovert Bassett, Cited for Heroism at Palermo Landings ~ 1943 $1,600 shipped (U.S. Only) Group includes Bassett's commission sword with bright blade marked "USN," also bearing his name on the knucklebow. The Lt. Commander placed his ID bracelet around the grip of the sword and it is present there. Included in this group is a large amount of documentation, including the officer's citations, souvenirs of his time aboard USS Maurice J. Manuel, minesweeper. Citation reads that this officer lead a squadron of mine sweepers ahead of the landing craft during the landings at Salerno, Italy in 1943.
