Great Old Lantern Slide of Cannon Ball Lodged in Tree Outside Sherfey House, Gettysburg, Pa. ~ ca. 1901

$75 shipped, (U.S. Only)

Superb lantern slide depicting a cannonball lodged deep in a tree at the Sherfey House, much-fought-over ground during the Gettysburg Battle. Someone has placed chicken wire over the ball, firmly lodged in the tree, in an obvious attempt to keep souvenir hunters from digging it out - a common practice even at the turn of the 20th Century. Nice handwritten description on the left edge of the slide, in brown ink and period. Nice Gettysburg piece and can you imagine this bugger coming at you?
