Framed Memorabilia from the Ill-Fated Cruiser U.S.S. Indianapolis ~ 1936

$250 PLUS shipping (U.S. Only)

Displayed is an 8" x 10" Black and White Photo of the Indianapolis in Pearl Harbor, HI circa 1937. The postcard is cancelled with "killer bars" from Rio De Janeiro (Brazil) when President Franklin D. Roosevelt went on a diplomatic cruise to South America stopping in Rio as well as other major cities. It was stamped in the USS Indianapolis Post Office November 27, 1936. The cachet on the post card celebrates the USS Indianapolis on the Pan-American Presidential Cruise of 1936. The Indianapolis would take President Roosevelt on several other cruises and would become known as his favorite ship in the Navy. A separate stateroom was built to accommodate the President with his special needs. An engraved black brass plate explains the history behind the USS Indianapolis and the events of its last days as a cruiser in the US Navy.. CON#Bird6.16.07
